1. All ladder communication is done via e-mail, so please check your e-mail often.
2. The initial ranking of players on the ladder was set up by the administrators.
3. Anyone on the Tennis Ladder may challenge anyone else on the ladder, up to and including 5 rows above the challenger position.
4. New players can join the ladder at any moment. When you join the ladder, you may challenge any player at any position on the ladder up to 80% from the top for your first challenge. Chose very carefully whom you challenge since after this unique opportunity, you may only challenge players up to and including 5 rows above your position. If you lose the first challenge, you will be at the bottom of the ladder.
5. After a challenge has been issued, you have 7 days to play the match, and an extra day to register the game results. However, if you have not received a response from the challenged player (challengee) after 4 days, or the challengee cannot play, you may register a 0 – 0 result, which means that the challengee has forfeited the game. The non-responding challengee moves down one level.
6. If you win the match, you take that player’s place on the ladder. The player you defeated, and everyone below him/her, moves down one place. If you lose the challenge, everyone remains in the same place.
7. When you access the ladder page, you will see underlined the players you can challenge.
8. When you challenge somebody, you and the challengee will be blocked of either receiving a challenge or yourself challenging other players until the game has been played and the result of the game has been recorded.
9. The time and location of the match should be mutually agreeable to both players. If either party is more than 20 minutes late in attending an agreed match; then, the late or non-attender loses the match. Please, decide before playing what will happen if the lights go out or it rains during the game.
10. The challenger is responsible for providing new tennis balls for the match.
11. If the challengee wishes to forfeit the challenge, he/her can record this within the challenge period and the challenger wins the game. CHOSE "FORFEIT", DO NOT RECORD A TIGHT SCORE.
12. If no result has been recorded by 5 days through the challenge period, a reminder is emailed to both parties. The winner must record the result of the game up to 2 days after the game. If no result has been recorded by the end of the challenge period, a warning is sent to record the result. This must be done up to 1 day after the end of the challenge. If no result has been recorded by the end of this period, the challenger automatically wins.
13. The standard rules of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) apply to ladder matches. The usual method of scoring is based on winning two of three sets (unless you agree differently), with a tiebreak at the end of any set that reaches a score of six games each. In the tiebreak, the first to win seven points wins the set, but must win by at least two points. Alternatively, players may use any mutually agreeable method of scoring.
14. The rules will be interpreted and disputes between members will be settled at the sole discretion of the ladder administrators.
15. As is prudent in any recreational activity, and especially when involved with others, members should exercise due care in their involvement in a challenge ladder. The operators of the ladder cannot be responsible for injury to members or others, damage to property, or other liability arising out of membership in and use of the challenge ladder. By participating in the challenge ladder, each member accepts and agrees to abide by its rules.
