Unlimited Challenge Period
As summer draws to a close it is anticipated that ladder participation will once again pick up, and players who had moved to resting status will reactivate themselves. To help all players (re)establish themselves at the “appropriate” rank the period from September 2 to September 20 (inclusive) will be an unlimited challenge period.

During this period, players may challenge any player at any position. Once this period has expired however, players will once again be allowed to challenge as many as three positions above their current ranking.

Attn Fitness Centre & Canada Games Complex Members
The Fitness Centre and the CGC have proposed a plan to facilitate ease of play between ladder members of the different clubs.

From May 15 to August 31

the Fitness Centre will charge CGC members (who provide membership ID) a day pass fee of $6 (the normal day rate, incl. GST) during all hours of operation.

the CGC will charge Fitness Centre members (who provide membership ID) a day pass fee of $5.64 (the normal daytime rate, incl. GST) during all hours of operation.

After September 1

Both the Fitness Centre and the CGC will host one ladder night each per month. On these designated nights only, all members of the opposite club will be admitted free of charge to the host club to compete in ladder matches.

Thanks go out to Ron Fearon of the Fitness Centre, Donna Perrault of the CGC, and Shawn Donohue for coordinating this arrangement.

As always, if anyone has ideas or concerns that they wish to share with me, please do not hesitate to contact me (Todd Sloan) by email or phone (767.7949).

Join the Squash Ladder
If you have never played in a squash ladder before, it's great fun. New players can find other beginners to play, and advanced players can find challenging opponents.

Regardless of where you start on the ladder, after a period of time, you will end up playing opponents of similar ability. As you improve, you are likely to move up the ladder and play against tougher opponents.

There is no official start date for the ladder -- players are free to join at any time, and can change their status from "active" to "resting" as is convenient.

If you play squash in Thunder Bay, consider signing up! In fact, encourage a friend to do the same!

New members can register by clicking on LOGIN HERE above and then clicking on "register here".

The squash ladder rules and other information, including how to make a challenge, can be found by accessing the information page from the menu above.

New rating system
You will have noticed a points score appear next to player names on the rankings page (if logged in). This is a trial points rating system based on the classic Elo system. Players will be awarded points for winning and lose points for losing depending on how difficult the system calculates your opponent to be. It will take a few games to settle down the scoring system. Currently the rating is displayed for information purposes only but in future it will be possible to arrange the ladder ranking system around this points score.
