2007-8 Season
Hello and welcome to all budding Derby Squash players!

Following approval from the Hospital the ladder is now open the ladder to all staff at Derby Hospitals. This should make for an interesting way for medical and hospital staff/ students to mix. More people will also make it easier to find someone of an appropriate ability to play.

NEW Players: Please join us and come play some squash, click on 'Login' then 'New User'! All abilities welcome, last year we had over 40 members covering a wide range from beginners to experts. The court is very conveniently situated at the Derby Royal Infirmary (right by the Nurses accommodation tower block) and is very cheap (£1.50 for 45mins). You will need a key to get in. Either play someone who has a key (see the list under the 'court keys' tab below) or call Alan Hall the Squash Courts Key master on ext 2099 from within the hospital, deposit is £5 (i.e. cost of cutting)

Details of the ladder:
Membership is FREE and all involved with the GEM course (all years students and staff) are welcome.

To join is EASY! Click on the 'login' section and then the new user bit.

Rules and etiquette

1: Please only challenge someone if you intend to play. If challenged please suggest a convenient time to your challenger.

2: Once a challenge has been made you will have 7 days to play, you will then receive a reminder email. If after 3 more days a result hasn't been recorded the ladder will automatically record the game as a victory for the challenger.

3: After each game is recorded on the ladder the winner will move up to the place of the loser and loser will therefore drop a place.

4: If you don't play for 28 days (roughly a month), you will drop 2 places.

5: The same challenger can only re challenge the same player every week.

6: If you aren't available to play for more than a few weeks please set you status as 'resting' so that challengers aren't frustrated by non-responders. You can always rejoin with just a few clicks of the mouse!

7: Have fun!

New rating system
You will have noticed a points score appear next to player names on the rankings page (if logged in). This is a trial points rating system based on the classic Elo system. Players will be awarded points for winning and lose points for losing depending on how difficult the system calculates your opponent to be. It will take a few games to settle down the scoring system. Currently the rating is displayed for information purposes only but in future it will be possible to arrange the ladder ranking system around this points score.
